On September 2, 2020, the Russian Peat Company Group of Companies (rpc Group of Companies) and the Smolensk State Agricultural Academy (Smolensk State Agricultural Academy) signed a Cooperation Agreement aimed at integrating educational, research, innovation and material and technical potential, taking into account mutual needs and interests.
Joint work for the benefit of the Russian peat industry will be implemented by synthesizing the strengths and competencies of an educational institution and production. The agreement was signed by Sergey Merzlyakov, General Director of the Russian Peat Company Group of Companies, and Alexey Kuchumov, Rector of the Smolensk State Agricultural Academy. Students of the Academy will study in specialties relevant to the Russian Peat Company, perform final qualification work on modern problems of the peat industry and the use of peat in the agricultural sector, and also undergo practical training in production.
“rpc”, in turn, will offer the Smolensk Academy the participation of its specialists in the educational process, internships for students and graduate students at production facilities and will act as a potential employer.
“Collaboration with educational organizations is necessary today. Without the direct participation of students as a potential personnel asset of the agricultural industry, it is impossible to develop the competent use of valuable organic fertilizer – peat. Our goal is not only to give students of the Academy relevant and unique knowledge, but also to raise highly qualified specialists – agrochemists, agronomists, landscape designers and other specialties,” shared Sergei Merzlyakov.
In addition, both parties will work in innovation and research areas. Students, teachers, specialists and production representatives together will be able to take another step forward for the entire peat industry.
“The Smolensk region has long been famous for its peat – therefore, the fact that our students will receive unique knowledge from specialists working in the fields is useful and correct. I believe that this Agreement will be useful to both parties and will contribute to the development of the industry and the region,” said Alexey Kuchumov.
