In the administration of the Smolensk region, a working meeting was held between Governor Alexei Ostrovsky and the General Director of the Russian Peat Company Sergei Merzlyakov, as well as with the General Director of the TORFOPROM enterprise Sergei Starovoytov.
During the meeting, issues regarding the implementation of investment projects in the region were discussed. The projects concern the construction of a plant for the production of soils, substrates, fertilizer mixtures, as well as the development of new peat deposits for the purpose of peat extraction and processing.
“We know that in recent years the Smolensk region has shown a huge jump in the ranking of the investment climate of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, entering the top 20 most investment-attractive regions of Russia. I must say that our holding has very ambitious plans – we intend to become leaders in peat processing in Russia over the next three years. We have the potential, desire and financial capabilities for this,” said Sergei Merzlyakov, General Director of the Russian Peat Company.
The Smolensk region has large peat reserves – about 500 million tons. This allows for the development of deposits and the development of the region’s agricultural sector. Considering the high natural degree of readiness for development and the use of only high-quality equipment by rpc, we can confidently declare the upcoming success of the project.
“Peat processing is a significant industry for the Smolensk region. There are large deposits here and excellent potential for creating production. Unfortunately, in the last 30 years it has not developed dynamically enough. I am confident that the implementation of this investment project will change the situation for the better,” expressed hope Alexey Ostrovsky, Governor of the Smolensk region.
According to Sergei Merzlyakov, delivery of the main technological equipment for the plant under construction is expected in July of this year. It will be ready for commissioning in August. 50 new jobs will be created.
In the first year, the plant will process about 350 thousand cubic meters of peat, later this figure will increase to a maximum capacity of more than 1.5 million cubic meters. There are no such large factories in Russia.
Sergey Starovoitov, General Director of TORFOPROM, added that the company’s plans include the development of new investment projects. In his opinion, they will be able to make a significant contribution to the revival and further development of the peat industry in the Smolensk region as one of the most important industries for the agricultural sector.
