Violet (Saintpaulia) is a rather demanding plant. Its development and flowering depends on many factors. You need to choose the right pot, provide optimal humidity and lighting. Violet is afraid of drafts. Specially selected nutritious peat soil plays an important role. It should be slightly acidic (ph 5.5 – 6.5), light, contain a lot of air, and absorb excess water.
Peat soil for violets is well suited for planting, growing and replanting all types of violets (Saintpaulias, primroses). The soil is made on the basis of peat, has a light texture, is breathable, and contains all the necessary nutrients.
The first layer of drainage, for example, expanded clay, is placed in the selected flower pot. Then the prepared peat soil is placed. The plant is placed in the middle of the pot and gradually filled with soil to the lower leaves. The soil should not touch the leaves. When planting, it is advisable to shake the pot so that the peat soil completely fills the voids. Lightly compact the soil on top and water with warm water at room temperature.
More often and easier, propagation of violets is done by leaf. Take a healthy leaf from the second rosette and place the cutting in water so that it takes root. Typically the length of the cutting should be 4 cm.
You can immediately plant the leaf in a specially prepared container with drainage holes. To do this, about 2 cm of drainage is poured onto the bottom of the planting container, peat soil is poured on top, leaving free space at the top. Plant the leaf at an angle and sprinkle it with soil, lightly tamping it down. Watering comes from below. The planting container with the leaf is lowered halfway into the water. Through drainage holes, water saturates the soil. When the first leaves appear, top watering is applied using a sprayer.
